While interest in artificial intelligence is growing rapidly, many students and educators still lack formal training in how AI works, how to evaluate its outputs, and how to use these tools responsibly. These gaps raise concerns about misinformation, over-reliance on AI, and unequal access to emerging technologies.

The challenge is particularly significant in underserved and remote communities, where limited internet connectivity, electricity, and digital infrastructure can restrict access to AI tools and training. Addressing these disparities may require flexible approaches, including offline learning opportunities and programs designed around local conditions.

Diera Paksi also emphasizes the importance of coordination among universities, governments, the private sector, think tanks, and local communities. Initiatives such as AI Ready ASEAN seek to strengthen AI literacy, connect community-level needs with regional policymaking, and ensure that the benefits of AI in education are more broadly accessible.
